Recovery from Abuse

I wrote this poem to help me be more patient with the myself and the length of the healing process.

Recovery from Abuse

by Tanya T. Warrington

Healing takes time,
but no more hours
than I have.
I can take as long
as I need.

Today is the perfect day
to treat my needs with respect
to listen to my inner voice
to nurture with self-care.

I cannot change the past,
but I have the power
needed to improve today;
God's strength is enough.

Old tapes may play
outdated lines of misery,
but I can push "Stop!"
and sing new tunes of love.

I can meet today's challenges,
I have enough time,
enough patience, strength, and words--
I chose to believe that I am enough.
